Helen swam at Lakeview from age 6 to 18. She is a 7-time NVSL individual All-Star, attended the NVSL All-Star Relay Carnival 4 times, holds the 15-18 Girls' 50-Fly record at Lakeview, and is a member of 3 LV record-breaking relay teams. She swam for the Robinson swim team for four years. Helen was a captain of the Robinson Swim and dive team. She has continued swimming in college as part of the club team. She has coached for Lakeview in the summer as a junior coach for four years and coached in the winter program as an assistant coach for 3 years and as co-head coach for 1 year. She graduated from Robinson in 2018 and now attends Virginia Commonwealth University and is studying Political Science.
Peter Brukx is entering his 13th year affiliated with Lakeview. He coaches at the Swim Farm in the winter and was a captain his junior and senior years at Robinson Secondary School. As a swimmer for Lakeview from the age of 6 to 18, he was the 2018 NVSL All Star Champion in the 50 fly, a 4-time NVSL Individual All-Star, and broke the 50 free, 50 fly, and 50 back team records. He is currently a student at the George Washington University studying International Affairs.
Claire is 7-time NVSL All-Star, has competed at the NVSL All-Star Relay Carnival 3 times, and holds the Lakeview 11-12 50 Fly and 100 IM record, and the 13-14 100 IM record, as well as being a member of 2 record holding relays. This past year she competed on the Lake Braddock Varsity Swim and Dive team as a freshman and was a member of their State team. For the last 8 years she has swum with the Mason Makos, and is a member of their Senior National team. She has also assisted with the Mighty Marlins for the last 2 years, and was an assistant coach of the Lakeview Winter Swim program this year. Claire loves working with young children and looks forward to helping the swimmers improve their technique and endurance, while fostering a love for the sport that has given so much to her.
Katelyn Shafer has been swimming competitively since she was seven years old. At the age of eight, Katelyn started swimming for Lakeview. Katelyn is a 2-time NVSL All-Star, and has competed at the NVSL All-Star Relay Carnival 2 times. Katelyn holds the Lakeview 13-14 and 15-18 50 breast records, as well as being a member of 2 record holding relays. Katelyn swims year-round for Mason Makos and made the Robinson Varsity Swim Team both as a freshman and sophomore. The past two seasons she has made the District, Region and State teams for Robinson. Starting at the age of twelve, she volunteered to assist in coaching our Mighty Marlins practice and at the age of fourteen assisted in coaching the Mini Mighty Marlins group lessons. This year, Katelyn also began coaching the Mini Mako Developmental groups and Lakeview Winter Swim. Along with swimming, Katelyn rows for the Robinson Varsity Crew Team. Katelyn made the Varsity 1 boat as a freshman and sophomore and had the opportunity to compete at States and the Stotesbury Cup last year as a freshman. Katelyn is looking forward to an amazing season helping coach the Marlins!
Jett joined Lakeview in 2015 after moving to VA from MD. He has been swimming since the age of six-years-old. He is three-time MCSL All-Star and a three-time NVSL All-Star. Jett holds four individual Lakeview 13-14 boys records (50 free, 50 back, 50 fly, 100 IM) and holds a record for the 100 medley relay. He has swam for multiple club teams since the age of seven and currently is a National Team swimmer with Machine Aquatics. He is a member of Centreville HS swim team and this past year was a state finalist in 100 back, 100 fly, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. Jett has been a volunteer coach with the Mighty Marlins the past two years. He loves to swin, especially with Lakeview! Jett hopes to teach swimmers not only good technique and form this summer, but also a love for swimming and the Lakeview family.
Ashley Herbig has been a member of the Lakeview Swim Team since she was 5 years old! She also has been a member of the dive team at Lakeview since she was 9. Ashley is a senior at Robinson Secondary School and plans to attend Christopher Newport University in the fall to major in elementary education! Ashley cheered for Robinson and was a member of the swim and dive team all four years. She first started helping with the Mighty Marlins 4 years ago and since then she has found a passion for working with children! She currently works at Kids First Swim School as a swim instructor teaching children of all ages. Ashley cannot wait to start coaching this season!
Claire Burton has been a member of the Lakeview Swim Team since she was six years old and since then has found the water to be her second home! In 2014, Claire joined the Mason Makos where she still swims competitively. She started helping coach the Mighty Marlins group four years ago. As a nanny, swim coach, and special needs helper at her church, she has thereafter acquired countless hours of experience teaching swim lessons and working with young children. This fall she will be heading into her senior year at Robinson Secondary School. Claire also runs on the Robinson Cross Country team where she has fallen in love with running. Along with swimming and running, she is an active member in both high school and community theatre and at her church. Looking forward, she hopes to continue her running career in college while majoring in Food Science. Claire cannot wait to start coaching this summer and she looks forward to meeting everyone soon!
